Ackerman Cares Water Heater Giveaway
You never really realize how important hot water is until you don’t have any. In our industry, we felt one way we could really be impactful in our community would be to provide hot water to individuals who did not have the means to pay for a new unit themselves at this time. With our Ackerman Cares Hot Water Giveaway, we provide a new hot water heater and install it for someone in our community in need.

Ackerman Trade School Scholarship
Do you know someone who is interested in a career in plumbing or another trade?
In 2020 we started a scholarship which is now offered to four local schools, English Valleys, Williamsburg, Clear Creek Amana and Liberty High School. This scholarship is not plumbing specific and is available for anyone to apply who is going into skilled trades after high school graduation. Last year’s winner was Robert Soukup in Williamsburg. Robert was an intern with Ackerman Plumbing as a senior and is now a full-time team member and beginning his apprenticeship.

Local High School Involvement
Ackerman Plumbing is proud to continue our tradition of inviting local high school students to our office to get an inside look at what plumbing means to us and what a career in plumbing could look like for them. With local schools including English Valleys, Iowa Valley, Williamsburg and Liberty High, we are able to proactively engage the next generation of tradesmen and tradeswomen. From presentations to job shadowing, we are happy to provide career options and information to young people in our community.

Trade Association Partners
We are actively involved with the Iowa City HBA (Home Builders Association) by participating in the Vocational Training Council for the past several years. This organization and committee have played an important role in bringing back the Iowa City area student-built housing project.
Advocating for Higher Standards
We are actively involved with statewide issues through the Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors Association (PHCC) as members for years. This association strives to promote best practice installation of plumbing and heating systems across the state. They also weigh in on statewide legislative topics as well as provide second to none apprenticeship education opportunities.
Corey Ackerman has been a part of the Apprenticeship Committee for the past three years, on the board for the past two years and currently sits as President of the Iowa Chapter of the PHCC. And, our very own Aaron “Ernie” Elias, took part in the State level PHCC apprenticeship competition in 2020, winning it and then participating in the National competition in Indianapolis. Since then his handsome face has been in several national PHCC publications!
